The Durom Cup
Durom is a Zimmer trademarked brand name applied to a number of products. The Durom brand family comprises components for total hip replacement, partial hip replacement and total shoulder replacement. Components of this family are related in brand only and in the joint therapy they provide. The brand name Durom refers to a "durable range of motion." The Durom Acetabular Component (Durom Cup), utilized in total hip arthroplasty (THA) applications and surface replacement arthroplasty* (SRA); the Durom Femoral Component, utilized in femoral hip resurfacing hemi arthroplasty and in SRA; and the Durom Shoulder Cup, utilized in total shoulder arthroplasty, share the common characteristic of an increased range of motion compared to other implant systems.
Reports in the media have described revision surgeries of Durom products. It is important to note that these reports relate only to the Durom Acetabular Component (Durom Cup).
The Durom Acetabular system (Durom Cup) is a monoblock cup made of cobalt chromium (CoCr) alloy with a pure titanium plasma-sprayed coating for fixation. The design and material of the Durom Cup are key elements to its stability, wear resistance and bone-sparing characteristics.
The Durom Cup was launched in Europe, Canada and Australia in 2003, India and Korea in 2005, and Argentina in 2006. In the U.S., the Durom Cup was launched in 2006.
